“Not an on and off switch, but a dimmer switch.”

Facing an unprecedented surge in new coronavirus cases, California Governor Gavin Newsom wednesday announced the state was rolling back openings.. and re-imposing lockdown restrictions.

In LA and 18 other counties, representing over 70% of the state’s population, Newson will close indoor operations OF restaurants, bars, movie theaters, wineries and zoos – for at least three weeks.

Newsom also Cautioned Californians to think twice about plans for the upcoming July 4th holiday weekend.

“I hope you’ll reconsider those gatherings with people you do not live with that are not in your immediate household.”

Echoing The cautionary tone about the 4th – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.. said he’s more concerned about indoor gatherings than outdoor.

DESANTIS: “I’m more concerned about people crowding around the AC and having private, private parties, where you’re real close, close contact.”

Vice President Mike Pence, and Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus task force coordinator, visited Arizona Governor Doug Ducey to offer their support in one of the hardest-hit U.S. states. Arizona’s cases rose by nearly 5,000 and deaths by 88 on Wednesday, both single-day records for the state.

Ducey said gyms, bars, water parks and movie theaters will be quote “on pause” for the next 30 days to slow the spread.

DUCEY: “Our message to Arizonans today is clear. They are safer at home. If they do go out, we want them to mask up. We want them to physically distance, we want them to wash their hands.”

Arizona has a staggering test positivity rate of about one in four.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll on Wednesday showed anxiety is rising. 81% of American adults said they are “very” or “somewhat” concerned about the pandemic… with big business sensing some of that stress.

Apple announced it would re-close more than two dozen stores in seven states starting Thursday, including its home state of California, bringing total closures to 77.

Despite the recent surge and rising concerns — Trump this year will view fireworks celebrating U.S. independence at the Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota, where the governor this week said they would not be social distancing.
