LIVE FROM THE ’60S WITH THE REAL DON STEELE on KWXY Music Radio

Must read

ABOUT THE SHOW

Don Steele was one of the most popular disc jockeys in the United States from the middle of the 1960s until his retirement in 1997. He was best known as ‘The Real Don Steele’, a name suggested by his then radio program director, Steve Brown. Brown had hoped that ‘The Real Don Steele’, moniker would click with listeners and make Steele stand out from other radio personalities. Steele became nationally known as a DJ on radio station KHJ in Los Angeles, where he helped to promote the ‘ultrahip’ top-40 Boss Radio. The Real Don Steele stayed at KHJ until June 1973, then moved on to L.A. radio stations KIQQ, KTNQ, KRLA, KODJ / KCBS and KRTH.

During his career, Steele recorded numerous commercials and voice overs as well as the wildly popular syndicated radio show ‘Live From the 60’s’, featuring oldies exclusively from the 1960s. The program brought back radio’s lost art: ‘Theater of the Mind!’, with each hour of the show profiling a particular year from the decade along with facts, and pop culture bits to spark musical imagination. ‘Live From the 60’s’, was created by Steele along with his friend and contemporary M.G. ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly, who followed Steele at KHJ-AM, then DJ’d with him in the ’70s at 10Q. It was back in 1987, when M.G. Kelly and The Real Don Steele joined forces to produce the original ‘Live From the 60’s’.

Now M.G. Kelly and Shaune Steele present ‘LIVE FROM THE ’60s WITH THE REAL DON STEELE’ from the original masters created over 25 years ago, which is played on KWXY Music Radio.
